The Surat Branch of WIRC of ICAI was established in 1970 under the able chairmanship of CA. I.J. Desai, the iron man of Surat and a lengendary person. The Surat Branch caters the needs of members and students of South Gujarat.
During the initial years, the branch activities were carried from the office of past chairman CA. Y.B. Desai for 16 years. During these years, CA. Y.B.Desai nurtured and fostered the Surat Branch as a baby with great zeal and utmost care.
Achievements:
- The Branch celebrated its Silver Jubilee and received its first ever award from the Institute on being declared as the Best Branch in the Western Region and Second Best Branch Award in India In the year 1996 and the same feat was repeated in the year 1997.
- In the year 2000 – 2001, the Branch was awarded as the Best Branch in the region.
- In the year 1999 – 2000, 2001 – 2002, the Branch received a certificate of Highly Commendable Performance Branch Award from ICAI.
- In 2005, the Branch Successfully arranged “The All India Conference on Auditing and Corporate Laws”. The Branch was completely renovated and obtained the permission to start its own Decentralized Office.
- In the year 2006, the Branch successfully started the Operation of Decentralized Office.
- In the year 2007, Surat Branch became the centre for campus interview.Directory of members was also released in the same year.
- In the year 2008, Surat Branch received the Best Branch of WICASA Award.
- In the year 2009 Surat Branch conducted ITT Training program for students.
- In the year 2009, Surat Branch conducted a Mega Entertainment Programme at Indoor Stadium which was attended by more than 7000 citizens.
- In the year 2010, the Branch shifted to new and bigger leased premises at 2nd Floor, Saifee Building, Dutch Garden Road, Nanpura, Surat admeasuring 7000 sqft, wherein all the Branch and DCO activities including students activities were carried on. Thus, campus interview, Information Technology Training, Orientation Programme, GMCS etc., was started at Branch.
- Surat Branch has been consistently hosting National Conference on Taxation from the year 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018 and 2019.

In the year 2011, Surat Branch acquired plot of Land admeasuring 1132 Sq. yards at RundhMagdalla, Dumas Road, Surat for Construction of ICAI Bhawan.
- In the year 2012, Bhoomipujan was performed by the worthy hands of Honourable President of ICAI CA. Jaydeep N Shah.
- In the year 2012, Branch orgnazied National Conference for CA Students (NCS)
- In the year 2012 and 2013, Surat Branch received Highly Commendable Performance Branch Awards and Best Branch of WICASA Awards in Western India Regional Council.
- First time in history of Surat Branch CA. Jay Chhaira has been elected as Central Council Member for the term 2013 – 2015. Also member of Surat Branch CA. Rupin Pachigar (for the term 1986 – 1992), CA. B K Rathi (for the term 2007 – 2009), CA. Jay Chhaira (for the term 2010 – 2012), CA. Hardik Shah (for the term 2013 – 2015) & CA. Balkishan Agarwal (for the term 2016 – 2018) have been elected as Regional Council Member to WIRC.
- In the year 2014 Surat Branch launched Android Application for Members.
- For the first time, in 2014, Surat Branch organized International Study Tour at Dubai.
- Surat Branch organized National Convention for CA Students Consecutive for 3rd time and National Convention of Taxation for consecutive 4th Time.
- In the year 2016, Surat Branch of WICASA was awarded Highly Commendable Student Association amongst the Large Branch category by Institute of Chartered Accountants of India under the Chairman of WICASA CA. Abhishek Mittal.
- In the year, March 2017 Surat Branch got the clearance from the local authority to resume the construction of proposed ICAI Bhawan, Surat which was stopped in 2012 due to some legal procedures was left.

First ever ITAT Bench, Surat was inaugurated in Surat by Surat Branch of WIRC of ICAI in association of Income Tax Appellate Tribunal, Ahmedabad on 1st September, 2017
